Today started like every day here. A smile from my son and a sweet "good morning daddy". We got up, dressed, ate some breakfast and got ready to head out to finish paperwork with a final stop at the forbidden city and the drum tower.
Michelle our guide who has been sweet as can be, met us at the hostel and informed us that the civil affairs office had put the wrong date on a form. So we had to redo it then head to the notary.
We seemed to have hit the notary during rush hour because it took about two hours. Good lord that was boring. Jack became a master at temple god and fruit ninja and Steve and I attempted not to pass out. At one point an orphanage staff member met us at the notary to redo the messed up form. She asked Jack of we were good, and he smiled and said "we were very nice, very kind." Score us!!! We in turned told her that he way beyond perfect! She said, "yes we all know that. He is! So sweet!"
Once we were done there we headed to the passport office to apply for Jack's passport. The orphanage director met us there with the proper forms. Every time Jack sees someone he knows he smiles. This tells me that he was cared for on some level, maybe even loved by these women. For him to be so whole, so full of life, so sweet, someone had to show him these traits. I truly believe he was showered with them in his life to be the boy we have today.
The passport office was in and out. Jack was hamming it up for everyone! God this kid is cute. There was a single moment when the orphanage director took him by the arm to take his photo. He turned to me with a panic in his eyes. "don't leave me!" We quickly followed to show him we are right here.
We are right here, always and forever!
After the passport office we headed to lunch. Ping took us to a local place that serve these amazing meat pancakes or I guess something like a flat taco, OMG amazing. It has been great to have a local take us to his favorite places.
We then ran to the drum tower only to hear the show as we crawled up the stairs. So we missed it and were too lazy to wait an hour for another. Jack was laughing all the way up the stairs and I swear the final drum hit as we made the top stair! Freaking hell!
Seeing the tower was pretty amazing though. So worth the climb! Next we were off to the forbidden city! Ping told us that once we saw one building we would have seen them all, but wow what massive place. He was totally right. We stopped for our daily popsicle. Then weaved our way through the FC. Making sure to stop and make grrrr noise every time we passed a lion and setting up other funny photos which Jack got very into.
Once we got out of the FC we headed to the bank to flip some cash and called it a day. Dinner was in the hutong again and again it was amazing! Jack's personality is really starting to shine. He is so funny and still sweet as can be.
We found out today that he has read ALL the Harry Potter books. Be still my heart he is my son!
